Equipment

  • food processor or blender either device

Ingredients

  • 4 medium bananas frozen and sliced
  • 4 tablespoons black sesame paste or more to taste
  • 2 tablespoons almond milk or non-dairy milk of choice. You may need a little less or more non-dairy milk to get the blades of the food processor or blender going.

Instructions

  • Chop the frozen banana into slices.

Food Processor

  • Place the frozen banana slices into the food processor and secure the lid. Process the frozen bananas until the mixture looks like sand. Stop the food processor and scrape the sides and push the banana mixture down towards the blades. Add a teaspoon on non-dairy milk at a time and continue processing until mostly smooth (stopping periodically to scrape down the sides). Then, add the black sesame paste and process until smooth and creamy.

Blender

  • Add a couple tablespoons of non-dairy milk into the blender first. Then, add the frozen bananas and blend. Stop the blender and scrape down the sides periodically. Add a tablespoon at a time of non-dairy milk to get the blender moving until mostly smooth. Then stop the blender and add the black sesame paste. Continue blending until smooth and creamy.

Serving and Freezing

  • Enjoy black sesame nice cream right away as a soft serve ice cream consistency. If you prefer a firmer scoopable texture, transfer to a freezer safe container and freeze for 2 hours before serving. Leftovers can be frozen for up to 3 months.

Notes

Recipe Tips
  • One serving is 1 frozen banana with 1+ tablespoon of black sesame paste.
  • If you have a large food processor, you will want to use at least 3 to 4 frozen bananas so that the blades can get moving with 3 to 4 tablespoons of black sesame paste.
  • Use RIPE bananas for a naturally sweet ice cream.
  • Add more black sesame paste, for a deeper nuttier flavor.
  • On the other hand, if you want a more prominent banana flavor – add less black sesame paste.
  • If you are using unsweetened "black tahini sauce" made with raw sesame seeds instead of "black sesame paste" made with toasted sesame seeds, you may want to add a natural sweetener like maple syrup, date paste or even honey.
  • If you freeze the nice cream overnight, it will freeze solid. Please set the nice cream out on the counter at room temperature for about 15 minutes before attempting to scoop.
