In Münster, our friend shared with us the hometown's version of gingerbread with candy citron studded gingerbread cookies baked into big rectangles. Much simpler and plainer than your beauties tho' usually in the form of Christmas shapes
Somewhat heavier in spices also . . . and I do think most continental Europeans would take them to be of German origin! Still important now . . . reading about pre-Yule Christmas 'do;s at the various Estonian clubs there are big ads out in the papers about the sale of the raw cookie DOUGH to make them at home to correct national recipes!!!
