Happy Holidays Eha! Ah, yes our family gingerbread cookie recipe is very different from the traditional German style gingerbreads - lebkuchen. In Münster, our friend shared with us the hometown's version of gingerbread with candy citron studded gingerbread cookies baked into big rectangles. With a biscuit in one hand, walking around on the cobblestone roads of Münster - it's a delightful way to enjoy the holidays. Take Care

Have to smile - As you know I barely bake and come from and have been married into families who act as total Scrooges come late December . . . but seasonal gingerbread cookies are an absolute given! Much simpler and plainer than your beauties tho' usually in the form of Christmas shapes
Somewhat heavier in spices also . . . and I do think most continental Europeans would take them to be of German origin! Still important now . . . reading about pre-Yule Christmas 'do;s at the various Estonian clubs there are big ads out in the papers about the sale of the raw cookie DOUGH to make them at home to correct national recipes!!!

Hi there Melanie. Thanks so much. I know exactly how difficult it can be making exchanges for allergies. Congratulations on making this recipe dairy, gluten free and nut free and egg free. Well done! Love that little kick idea from the Cayenne. Happy baking and wishing you a super holiday season.
